BreastScreen Otago Southland recently identified a potential issue related to the BreastScreen Aotearoa assessment image reading process involving some assessments that were performed between May 2020 and May 2021.

Thank you for your participation with BreastScreen Otago Southland, the regional provider of the national breast screening programme, BreastScreen Aotearoa (BSA).
Through routine quality monitoring, BreastScreen Otago Southland recently identified a potential issue related to the mammogram reading process, involving a specific radiologist, and affecting some mammograms performed between May 2020 and May 2021.
Your assessment visit was included in this group.
Your imaging has now been reviewed. The reviewing radiologist found that the report for your assessment imaging was consistent with the original imaging findings and the result you were previously notified of has not changed.
If you notice any change in your breasts, it is important to see your doctor promptly.
BreastScreen Otago Southland understands that learning of this situation may be distressing to you and sincerely apologises for this. Our primary concern is the safety of all women, which is why the decision was made to review this breast imaging.
